Dear Parents,
Important
Dates
*May 9th,
Mother’s Day Celebration, 2:00 in our classroom. RSVP.
*May 22nd-
Spring Concert, 6:30 Pm
I hope you all enjoyed the warmth and sunshine over spring break,
and are managing to stay warm through our recent snow showers.
Isn’t it just typically Vermont?
We finished up our unit on weather with a trip to Echo Center.
There were so many wonderful interactive exhibits and it was a
beautiful day to eat lunch in the park by the lake. I would like
to thank Dennis Green, Robin Bennett, Donna Peake, Angela
Mendietta and others who have helped with field trips throughout
the year.
In our new science unit we are learning about simple machines.
They will learn about the effect of force on inclined planes,
wedges, levers, wheels and axles, screws, and pulleys. This week
they built a rampand measured the force of lifting books straight
up verses pulling them up a ramp. They put sandpaper, wax paper
and fabric on to learn about the effect of friction on force. We
talked about and looked at many of the simple machines we use
every day. They are also looking at more complex machines with Mr.
Neckers.
We wrapped up our unit on fractions. We spent time learning about
equivalent fractions by comparing them visually with fraction
pieces and different drawings.
Our new math unit is Measurement. We are learning all about
feet, inches, centimeters, perimeter, area and more by measuring
the playground equipment. Next we will learn about area by
designing our dream house and making a floor plan.
Students did a good job with their procedure writing pieces on
everything from how to tie a shoe to how to eat a banana. They are
working on writing poems and a reflective essay. The focus is on
writing from their own experience, reflecting thoughts and
feelings.
All mothers should have received an invitation to our Mother’s Day
celebration on May 9th at 2:00 in our classroom. Please
RSVP if possible. They have something special in store for their
mom’s.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Nancy
