Bonjour encore!
2/22/08
Thank you all for
your part in making parent/teacher conferences go so well this
time. It was wonderful talking with all of you and sharing
thoughts about your children. I greatly appreciate this support!
Some of you have not yet sent back the report card envelopes.
Please do this as we will use them for final report cards as
well.
We focused on oral
hygiene and dental health this week. We watched a short health
video on tooth health. In our journals we drew what we thought
the tooth fairy looked like and wrote a sentence about it. We
also did a tooth graph: Lost Teeth / No Lost Teeth (Ask about
the results!) and learned about proper brushing, flossing, and
rinsing with the help of “Mr. Big Mouth”. They were pretty
impressed with my sister’s 4 wisdom teeth. They had no idea that
teeth had roots! I had to tell them that I didn’t make it up:
the teeth were real! We also spent a considerable amount
of time talking about foods that are good for teeth and those
which are not. We actually had a pretty good debate going on
about this one. Did you hear about Dr. De Soto, Norman
Fools the Tooth Fairy, & Little Rabbit’s Loose Tooth?
Ask about them.
FYI:
·
After break,
we will be talking about grandparents and will focus on the
importance of oral history: stories handed down, like quilts,
from one generation to another. We will also talk about
respecting our elders and why it’s importance to learn from
their life expereiences. Attached to this newsletter is a form I
would like all kindergarteners to do with their grandparents and
bring it back next week. The grandparents think of something
they remember doing when they were young like the
kindergarteners. He/she will tell their story to their
grandchild and the grandchild will illustrate it. The
kindergarteners will then bring these back to school and share
them with the rest of the class and these stories will become a
part of our kindergarten archives.
·
Mark your
calendars! We would like to invite grandparents to come in on
Thursday, March 13th, for a visit from 8:00-11:00.
Grandparent’s Day is always a special one for the K crowd.
·
Let us welcome
Cierra Harvey and her family to our school community! She has
adjusted very well into our kindergarten family.
·
Congratulations
to Samantha for learning how to tie her shoes. She has been
practicing and practicing and was so proud to share this
remarkable “feat” with us! More and more kids are learning how
to do this and they are glowing when they demonstrate this
skill. It is quite an empowering accomplishment for them
·
It’s winter
break! Ya-hoo!!!! Please enjoy the time with your wee ones.
School resumes on Wednesday, March 5th.
